| The 32-40 Winchester was introduced in 1884 and got it's name for 32 caliber or .32"diameter projectile and 40 grains of black powder, hence the name 32-40. Winchester and Marlin then chambered the cartridge in their lever-action rifles in 1896. Also known as the 32-40 Ballard as it was developed for the black powder Ballard match/target rifle No.s 8 & 9. The cartridge has been obsolete for many decades except for the below item. |
