The Teatfire cartridge was designed approximately in the mid 1860s,
and very short lived.
It was one of many different types of ignition systems invented in the era to
try to get around the center-fire primer patent, owned by Smth & Wesson.
It was invented by D. Williamson and patented in 1864.
The bullet (
Green, in drawing) held in the black- powder.
The whole system, including the bullet was enclosed in the copper contenter.
The ignition material was in the little teat at the left end.
These cartridges are well over 125 years old!
