The 9x23mm Winchester was designed by John Ricco and introduced in 1996, after much time was
spent in courts on patent infringements by Winchester.
The 9x23mm Winchester is designed with a very thick web (case base) so as to handle
48,000 P.S.I. (pounds per square inch), so, for this reason,
never use a 9x23mm Winchester in a
9mm Largo pistol
, as the 9mm Largo pistols are not built to handle that amount of pressure.
Some shooters consider the the 9x23mm Winchester cartridge to be the best caliber available for the
1911 pistol frame, but the cartridge is used very little today.
