| The 8 mm Mauser, or 7.9x57J or 7.9xmmJS was introduced for the German Military for the Manlicher -type german Model 88 Rifle, and later in 1888 used in the Mauser Rifle. The originial cartridge had a .318" diameter "J" projectile, but was changed to a .323 "S" projectile in 1905. Because you can shoot a "J" or .318" projectile in a "S" or .323" barrel most or all ammunition makers today use the "J" .318" projectile. The 8mm Mauser like the 30-06 is one of the best military and commercial sporting cartridges ever designed. This speciman is a Remington Commercial "J" or .318" soft point projectile sporting cartridge. More 8mm Cartridges to follow soon. |
