| ~ The SLAP, for Saboted Light Armor Penetrator was introduced by Winchester for use by the U.S. Military in 1985. It is made in 7.62 NATO (7.62x51mm or .308 Winchester) and 50 BMG (.50cal Browning Machine Gun) by incorporating a polymer sabot, which allows for the use of a tungsten penetrator projectile of a .223" caliber diameter that allows for a much higher velocity, which increases penetration. In addition to the tungsten penetrator in the projectile it also has a tracer element in the rear.
