Military Cartridges Stock Section
The 7.7x58mm, Semi-Rimmed, Machine Gun cartridge was introduced in 1929, after the Japanese Military decided that
the 6.5x58mm Japanese cartridge was not suitable for long range duty.  The 7.7x58mm (Type 89), Machine Gun cartridge,
was adopted for the Type 89 Flexible/Fixed Machine-Guns, which were copies of the BritishVickers Machine Guns.
There were 4 different projectiles produced for the
7.7x58mm, Type 89, cartridge;
(1.)
Ball, (Pink case mouth sealant, Gilding metal, 162 Grains)
(2.) AP (Armor-piercing, had a black or dark purple primer sealant, brass jacketed Steel core, 162 grains)
(3.) Incendiary (Magenta case mouth sealant, Capri-nickel, or copper nickel jacketed, 163grains)
(4.) Incendiay/ Explosive ( Purple case mouth sealant, Gilding metal jacketed and flat tip, 163 grains)

Later in 1932 the Japanese started to produce the 7.7x58mm, Type 92 cartridge for the Type 92 Heavy Machine gun.
The Type 89 and Type 92  ammunition have the same case size, the differences are in the projectiles.
There were many different projectiles produced for the
7.7x58mm Type 92, cartridge, some were;
(1.) Ball, (Pink case mouth seal & gilding metal projectile, 203 Grains)
(2.) AP (Armor-Piercing, black case mouth seal, steel cored brass jacketed projectile, 162 grains)
(3.) Tracer (Green case mouth sealant and cupronicknel or copper nickel alloy, jacketed projectiles, 156 Grain),
(4.) Wood-bullet, blank
(5.) Ball (with Green Primer, later, scarce, 1942 to 1944 production)
