The 7.7x58mm Japanese "Rimless"
Cartridge was adopted by the Japanese military in 1939 for use in the (above pictured) Type 99 "Light Machine Gun, and also used in the Ariska Type 99, Bolt Action Rifle. The Type 99 Rifle (see below)was basically a re-chambered Type 38 Rifle which was chamber in 6.5mm and designed by Nariakira Arisaka. The 7.7x58mm Japanese "Rimless" uses the same .311-.312" diameter bullets as the .303 British and at a weight of 175 grains. |
