Introduced in 2003, the 6.5 Grendel was the result of years of development and testing by Alexander Arms to produce an intermediate size cartridge for the AR-15 rifle to deliver performance meeting or exceeding the 7.62 NATO (.308 Winchester) and do so with less recoil. Due to the superior ballistics of 6.5mm projectiles and the high efficiency cartridge design, the 6.5 Grendel improves upon 7.62 NATO military loadings with better energy, at ranges in excess of 400 meters. The 6.5 Grendel started off as a wildcat cartridge by blowing out the shoulder and necking down the 7.62x39 Russian to except 6.5 diameter projectiles. However now that factory ammunition is being produced, it should be consider a proprietary cartridge. |
