The .500/.450 B.P.E. was introduced in 1870's as a coiled black powder coiled cartridge for African game hunting.
The .500/.450 Magnum Nitro Express was introduced around the turn
of the 1800's to the 1900's. and replaced the .500/.450 B.P.E.
The .500/.450 Magnum Nitro Express produces over
5,000 foot pounds of energy and was used by Theodore Roosevelt
