| SOCOM refers to United States Special Operations Command After the battle in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993, many officers in SOCOM believed there was a need for a heavier cartridge than the 5.56 NATO or (223 REM) that would develop more power than the 7.62 NATO or (308 Winchester) with the surface diameter of the 45-70. The 458 SOCOM was developed in 1993 by Teppo Jutsu LLC located in The Woodlands, Texas. The .458 SOCOM cartridge is for use in the AR-15 rifle. The .458 SOCOM is not based off any existing cartridge, but is similar to an elongated .50 AE case necked down to .458". 10 (.458 SOCOM) cartridges will fit in the 30 round 5.56 NATO or (223Remington) AR-15 magazine. Note the extreme rebated rim; this is a 300 grain projectile that will move at 1,900 feet per second and develop 2,405 foot pounds of energy. Oh Yeah! |
