| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
| The 405 Winchester was the most powerful rimmed cartridge developed in 1904 for the Winchester Model 1895 lever-action rifle. Theodore Roosevelt loved this caliber and helped make it famous on his African hunts. It was not used much in this country as it was over powered and not a long range cartridge, and became obsolete in the late 1930's to early 1940's. Hornady recently reintroduced the caliber. So, it is still obsolete as far as Winchester and Remington manufacture, but not as far as Hornady. |
