The 40-60 Winchester was introduced in 1876 for the Model 1876 Lever- Action Winchester Rifle.
The Rifle was an upgraded, heavier version of the Model 1873 Lever-Action Rifle.
called the 40-60 W.C.F. (Winchester Center-Fire) Back in the day.  
This cartridge is about a 1/4" shorter then the  40-60  Marlin. Obsolete since 1934.
