| ~ The "38 Ballard Extra Long" centerfire cartridge was produced by UMC or Union Metallic Cartridge Company for the single shot Ballard and Stevens rifles. The cartridge was introduced in 1885 and is basically the centerfire version of the 38 extra long rimfire. Some of the rifles that shot this caliber had inter-changeable firing pins so the user could fire both rimfire and centerfire ammunition. The cartridges offered for sale have been gently cleaned and do not have the bees wax lubrication on them. Some may have a few spots, but all in all are in good condition for a 100 year old specimen.
