| First came the 38 ACP, designed by John Browning and introduced by Colt in 1900. The 38 ACP (ACP) for (Automatic Colt Pistol) was also called the 38 Automatic and 38 Auto. The 38 ACP was replaced in 1929 by the 38 "Super" Auto which is the "same cartridge case" but with an increased energy level, with newer and different gun powders. The 38 Super Auto, is also called the 38 Super, and also the 38 Super +P. (+P = More power,or Powder) All are the same. The 38 Super & 38ACP cartridge is 9x23mm SR (Semi-Rimmed) it is not the same as the 9x23mm Winchester, which is rimless. Below are 5 different verisions |
