| The 38-70 Winchester Center Fire was introduced in 1886 for the Model 1886 Winchester lever Action Rifle. It wasn't very popular and was discontinued a few years later. It is not the same design as the 38-56 or 38-72 as it has a bottle-neck case design. This is a very hard cartridge to find, with the "w" in the primer from the Winchester factory.
