| The 38-56 Martin/Winchester was introduced in 1887 for the Model 1886 Winchester Lever-Auction rifle. It began as a black powder cartridge, then was loaded with smokeless powder by the turn of of the 1800s and became obsolete by 1936. The Marlin Single Short rifle and Colt Pump-Action rifle were also chambered in this Cartridge. |
