| New for 2007 America's love affair with the 30 caliber rifle cartridge has been going on for more then 100 years. More big game is shot each year with 30 caliber rifles than all other caliber rifles combined. The 30/30 Winchester, 300 Savage, 300 H&H, 30-06, and 308 Winchester are just a few of the many 30 calibers available. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now Hornady and Marlin are adding a new cartridge to the 30 caliber line-up, and showing the world that maybe shorter is better. Basically the 308 Marlin Express is a shortened 308 Winchester, or shortened 307 Winchester Rimmed, with a large Rimmed Head. I would presume the large rimmed head would function better in the lever action rifle and also so you cannot chamber the 308 Marlin express in the 308 Winchester, and you can't chamber the 308 Winchester in the 308 Marlin Express, which would not be a good idea as the Marlin Express is .10" shorter than the 308 Winchester. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hornady and Marlin are claiming that the 308 Marlin Express performance rivals the 308 Winchester, but with less recoil, enhanced terminal performance of the EvolutionTM bullet featuring Flex TipTM Technology 160 Grain Projectile at 2660 Feet per Second 2,513 Foot Pounds of Energy should do the job on most big game! |
