.284 Winchester
The .284 Winchester was introduced in
1963 and was the first American
cartridge  with a  
*rebated rim.
The rim is the size of a 30-06 diameter
cartridge and the case base has a
considerably larger diameter.
There were two Winchester rifles
produced that were chambered in this
caliber, the Model 88 lever-action and
the Model 100 semi-auto , now long
discontinued.
The cartridge is now only produced
once a year in a seasonal run, or less.

case diameter
