The Winchester 22 Auto Cartridge was introduced in 1903 by Winchester for the Winchester Model 1903 Semi-Auto Rifle. The rifle has not been produced since 1937, and Winchester stopped making the cartridge in the 1970's. The purpose of the cartridge was to prevent action-gumming of blackpowder ammunition in a semi-auto rifle. Remington, and others also made this cartridge, but it is NOT the same as the "22 Remington Automatic Cartridge"! and the two cartridges are NOT interchangeable. I measured the two different cartridges and got these measurement: 22 Winchester Automatic Cartridge by Old Western Scrounger : Case Length: .658", Overall Cartridge Length .906", Case Diameter .248" 22 Remington Automatic Cartridge by Remington: Case length .685: , Overall Cartridge Lenght .936" Case Diameter .241" |
